Christmas Dinner

It’s the Holiday Season and I’m SO excited about it! My kids are all under 10, so Christmas magic is alive and well in our home. We are also a “Christmas after Thanksgiving” family, so we wait to put up our decorations, Christmas tree and watch Christmas movies until the Friday after Thanksgiving! No judgement if your tree went up the day after Halloween, I just can’t do it :-)

This year we traveled to see family over Thanksgiving and the weekend after (including seeing 4 of our grandparents!) which was wonderful time spent together. So, I spent all of last week decking our halls! The only thing left to do is to finish putting our lights outside.

As families grow and schedules get crazy, sometimes we don’t celebrate Christmas with some family members on Christmas Day! This was the case this year with our family, my dad and new stepmother and my sister and her family. This past Saturday, everyone came to our house for dinner, dessert, presents and hot chocolate! This was the first year the grandkids had matching pajamas and my sister and I donned matching sweaters (Old Navy for the win for both the pajamas and the sweaters!) We are definitely continuing the matching in the years to come!

This is the first Christmas that my dining room has my new dining room table and buffet, both of which were in my grandparent’s house. The Spode Christmas plates that graced many years of Christmas tables at my Grandmommy’s house seemed right at home on the table this year. It was the perfect culmination of Christmas past and present.

I love the combination of old and new meaningful items, especially at Christmas! The tablecloth was a wedding gift Austin and I picked out at Bed, Bath and Beyond. The glassware belonged to my great-grandmother, Chee Chee, and is close to 100 years old. The Spode dishes, candlesticks and flatware belonged to my Grandmommy and I grew up eating Christmas dinner with these plates and silverware! The pewter platter was a wedding gift from a dear lady from my church in high school. The red napkins were purchased this week from Hobby Lobby to provide a pop of color! This is the first time I’ve set the table with the napkins under the plate like this.

For dinner, I made one of my favorite dishes, Lemon Roasted Chicken with Croutons and paired it with steamed broccoli, sauteed carrots and mashed potatoes. We enjoyed sparkling apple cider to drink with dinner and had brownies (Ghiradelli Double Chocolate with powdered sugar sprinkled on top!) for dessert! We also had a hot chocolate and coffee bar for after dinner.

My Christmas gift to you is a meal guide to make this dinner for your holiday gathering! It includes all of the recipes, an ingredients list and a cooking schedule so everything is done at the same time and is served warm!

Come back for more recipes to grace your table this holiday season! May your heart and your home be filled with love, joy and peace during this special time of year!
